Okidata 320 Turbo Printer Setup

The 320 is a good workhorse dot matrix printer. Unfortunately, it will not come even close to working with our program out of the box. The following steps should make it work correctly.

1. Get it unpacked, turned on, paper in it, SEL light on etc. - Get it ready to function.

2. Hold down the SHIFT button (second from left) and press SEL/MENU button (leftmost button) while holding SHIFT button down.

3. The Menu light at the bottom should come on.

4. If it does, release the above 2 buttons and  press the GROUP button (3rd from left). The printer should print
Printer Control     Emulation Mode    IBM PPR
If it shows anything else press the SET button (5th from left) until is shows the above.

5. After it is set to IBM PPR press the GROUP button 5 times. This should show on the paper -
Top Feed        Line Spacing            6 LPI

6. Now press the ITEM button (4th from left) and the printer will print
Top Feed        Bottom Margin         either Valid or Invalid
If it reads Valid, press the SET button and make it read Invalid. You want it to print
        Top Feed        Bottom Margin         Invalid

7. Now press the ITEM Button (4th from left) and you should see it print something like
Top Feed        Page Length               11 "
Press the SET Button (5th from left) until the page length is 17 ". You want it to read -
Top Feed        Page Length                17 "
If you go past it (17 ") just keep pushing the SET button. You will count back up to 17 ".

8. Press the ITEM button 2 times and the printer should print
Top Feed        Page Length Control    by Actual Page Length.
If it does not read this way, press the SET button and it should.

9. Hold down the SHIFT Button (2nd from Left) and press SEL/MENU button (leftmost) while holding down the SHIFT Button. Turn them both loose and the MENU light should go out and the SEL light come back on and you are finished.

PLEASE NOTE - There have been reports of problems with the OKI series under Windows XX if the Parallel Port Mode is set to anything but epp (usually the incorrect setting is ecp/epp). The symptom is that it gloriously does not work, printing gibberish for everything at all times. If you have that problem try changing the type of port in your Bios settings or in Device Manager off of the Windows Control Panel.
